Stained Early American, finished with VerMeister Aqua Tenax sealer and Idro2k 30 gloss
2 1/4" Select red oak installation stained Chestnut
We removed the fingerblock parquet and linoleum floor to install a 3 1/4" select white oak floor. There was an unfortunate surprise under the existing floor, a direction change in the joists (flooring must be installed perpendicular to the joists). The customer opted to go with an ornamental element to accentuate the direction change.
This one turned out looking amazing, finished with VerMeister's Flame sealer and top coated with Bona's Traffic HD in a matte sheen.
Water is the Achilles heel of wood. I've seen a soaked wood floor lift cabinets up a few inches, it's amazing. This one was no exception. With planks this wide this floor didn't stand a chance. The color match was tough too, the existing floor had faded to a dark red at the ends but retained a bit of a yellow-ish color where the rug was. We opted to match the color at the ends for the whole repair, it virtually disappears when the rug is in place... We finished it with VerMeister's Velvet- a very low sheen finish made to mimic the look of hand rubbed oil as the existing floor had very little shine.
This 100 year old 2" maple floor was butchered by some amateurs. Edger digs, sander ridges, and for some reason when they came back to resand the front rooms they stained them a red color instead of the natural they'd done in the other room previously. And OMG the dust!! I don't know how anyone gets away with that nowadays. Pay a professional, it's always worth it in the end.
Step by step of the whole process. The original quartered white oak facenailed floor was too creaky, so it was removed and the subfloor was renailed to the joists. Then a new 3 1/4" white oak floor was installed, sanded, stained and finished. Bona rosewood, satin traffic.
